THE ENERGY
Argentina occupies the first position in the continent as country producing of energy, and you autoabastece almost in 90%. The main sources producers are the rivers Córdoba, Mendoza and Tucumán, as well as the torrentosos Neuquén and Limay in the area patagónica on whose courses have been built big central hydroelectric. The hydroelectric production experienced a spectacular peak in 1994 with the full operation in the NE of the hydroelectric complex country of the gigantic one of Yaciretá-Apipé.
They complete this production the thermal power stations of Buenos Aires and Mercedes, and the nuclear of Atucha 1, in Buenos Aires, and Dam, in Córdoba.
Although the national energy plan has tried to balance the different sources of energy production, it has not considered in the same measure the environmental impact that the realization of the different power stations has taken place. This way, the prey of Yaciretá-Apipé and other built ones on the river Paraná, included the Brazilians, they have flooded thousands of hectares, causing a radical alteration of the regional ecosystem. |
